- May 2008 - Play with the Seals New England Aquarium, Boston. Get in on a play session with harbor seals and sea lions. - May 2008 - Nautical Nights Battleship Cove, Fall River. Spend the night aboard the Battleship Massachusetts and live like the sailors did during WWII. Trudge up the galleyway with sleeping bags, pillows and backpacks then climb on the 40MM mounts, crank the handwheels and investigate all the guns and turrets. - May 2008 - Overnight Adventure Program. Experience life on board a member of what was once one of the Navy's most powerful class of cruisers. The USS Salem CA-139 is now the world's only preserved heavy cruiser. Onboard activities include simulated combat situations such as radar tracking, damage control and simulated firefighting, as well as scavenger hunts, cold-water-survival tips, along with hoisting and first aid lessons.

- May 2008 - Tours of Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center. Open Thurdays-Sundays, Time: 10 am. to 5 p.m. Location: Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center, Ed Moffitt Drive in Sandwich Discover the rich history, fascinating features and vigilant operation of the Cape Cod Canal through this 45-minute tour, as well as interactive displays and films. - May 2008 - Sketched at Sea Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Mass. A hidden treasure of the Peabody Essex Museum's maritime collections-an important selection of marine sketchbooks, many of which are being shown for the first time. The men and women who created these works were mariners, travelers or professional artists, and they all shared the experience of the sea as the inspiration for their drawings. The pages in the sketchbooks will be frequently rotated so that visitors can regularly experience a fresh selection of artwork. - May 2008 - Lobster Excursions, Plymouth, MA Enjoy a fun, affordable, "hands-on" lobstering experience as a one-hour excursion takes you to haul lobster traps from historic Plymouth Harbor. In an informal small-group atmosphere, learn how lobsters are caught. A detailed commentary includes lobster history, biology and the daily life of a New England fisherman. - May 7 and 14, 2008 - Sailboating for Beginners, Newburyport, MA This course is designed to meet the needs of both beginners who want to learn more about sailing and boating safety and nonsailing powerboaters who want to broaden their skills or better understand sailboat limitations. The course will include sailboat theory and techniques, boating safety, marine insurance, USCG equipment, rules of the road, basic piloting and navigation, popular knots, marine electronics, weather, boating terminology and safe-boathandling skills. - May 10, 2008 - AHA! (Art, History and Architecture), New Bedford, MA A collaborative of New Bedford's museums, galleries, merchants and restaurants present monthly arts and culture night. Themed events, on the second Thursday of every month, include concerts, exhibitions, lectures, tours, theatrical productions and family activities. - May 14 - 18, 2008 - Nantucket Wine Festival Downtown Nantucket, MA Over the past 11 years the Nantucket Wine Festival has blossomed into one of the region's most celebrated wine and food events. - June 14 - 15, 2008 -- Cape Cod Life Boat & Recreation Expo & in the Water Show 10 am - 3 pm. Come stroll along the beautiful Hyannis waterfront and bring the whole family. - August 10, 2008 - 6th Annual Bird Island Challenge. The event begins at the Narrows in downtown Wareham and is open to all paddling or row boats. Choice of three courses, 3, 6 or 13 miles.
