We are currently seeking an experienced Marine Mechanic/Technician to join our team. Experience with marine diesel engines and electrical systems required. Other boat related and marine service skills a plus.  The ideal candidate must be team orientated, but also have the ability to work well independently.  They must be dependable, tidy, organized, and able to follow directions well.  They must be able to perform diagnostics, as well as repairs, and enjoy trouble shooting to solve problems.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to continuously improving and learning new skills. Continuing education opportunities through dealer classes and professional development training are available. We value our employees and hope the ideal candidate will join us for a lifelong career.

Hours: M-F 8:00am-4:45pm

Some Saturday mornings throughout the spring.

 

Qualifications:

Strong understanding of marine diesel and gas engines

Ability to keep track and write down work performed, parts used and time spent

Ability to follow written work orders, take notes while performing work and communicate the work performed effectively to manager

Follow established procedures

Willingness to learn, listen and take direction

Desire to continuously improve

Engine and ABYC certifications a plus

AC &DC electrical knowledge

 

Responsibilities:

Perform repairs of marine diesel and gas engines, transmissions, drives and generators

Run engines and perform diagnostics

Perform preventative maintenance, such as oil and filter changes, replace impellers and change zincs

Inspect, repair and adjust propellers, shafts, and stuffing boxes

Assemble, disassemble and install engines and parts as necessary

Perform diagnostics and repair sanitation systems

We are looking to fill some FT/YR job positions. We will define the positions duties further depending on the applicant’s talents.

 

Mechanic applicant should have strong capabilities or past mechanical experience in a related field such as marine, automotive, truck, RV, equipment, motorcycle, autobody or small engine.

 

Boat Rigging applicant should have strong capabilities or past mechanical experience in a related field such as marine, automotive, truck, RV, equipment, motorcycle, autobody or small engine. We prefer someone with boat handling, boat delivery, rigging and outboard repower capabilities.

 

 

Fabrications Shop applicant would ideally have experience with fiberglass and gelcoat repair and must have good mechanical capabilities. Experience with torches and welding equipment or fabrication helpful. Someone with past experience in marine, automotive, truck, RV, equipment, motorcycle, autobody or small engine may be a good fit for this role as well.

We seek a responsible Launch Driver with experience driving power boats and a United States Coast Guard credential to operate our launch service during the weekends this summer. The Weekend Launch Driver is responsible for bringing customers to and from their boats located in Arey’s Pond, keeping the launch vessel clean and ready for passengers, and assisting customers as needed. The pace of this job varies based on the day’s weather and tide. On busier days the launch driver can expect to do a dozen or more trips, and on slower days there may be only a few. On bad weather days, launch service may be canceled.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Bring customers to and from their boats moored in Arey’s Pond
  • Communicate with customers via a handheld VHF radio
  • Keep the launch vessel clean and ready for passengers

Job Requirements:

  • Must be available to work Saturday and Sunday from 8am-5pm from May 27th through September 3rd

The Launch Driever personnel is a qualified and authorized employee that operates vessels under direction from the Dockmaster Assitant Dockmaster or the General Manager.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate vessels for passenger movement or other miscellaneous operations

Ensure passenger safety and provide customer service

Assist in and/or conduct vessel operations and maintenance as directed by the Captain

Monitor daily progress of the vessel, observing speed, engine pressure and water depths, and signaling any passing ships

Composite Boat Building (CBB) Instructor

Position: Program Instructor in the Composite Boat Building Program at the Landing School. This position is a full-time, permanent position, functioning within the direct supervision of the Director of Education, hired by the President of the School.

Objective: The Composite Boat Building curriculum is designed to provide students with a structured learning environment in which they can become knowledgeable and proficient in the practical application of the fundamental principles of construction and manufacturing techniques in the composites industry, primarily focused on the Marine Trades Industry

The program instructs students in the fabrication of composite components and the construction of commercial products, including small, modern boats, using various non-wood materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar, and natural fibers such as flax.

Teaching students how to work on and complete projects on schedule with a high level of quality are primary goals. Projects for the school may vary from year to year and may include a boat build and associated tooling.

Duties and Responsibilities: In fulfillment of the objectives, the CBB Instructor, together with other members of the CBB faculty, will:

 

• Continue to develop and improve the curriculum through syllabus, lesson plans, teaching equipment/materials, and scheduling of student work.

• Work directly with students, with primary responsibility for lectures, demonstrations, bench work, practice applications, and the boat being built that year.

• Assist students in learning, individually, in small groups, and as a class, through clear communication; patient, understanding, approach; thorough and professional knowledge; mature leadership; and positive, honest academic advice.

• Manage Composite Boat Building student project(s) and project boats:

o Develop project schedules with milestones and completion dates.

 

o Develop Scantlings and Laminate Schedules

 

o Develop a Bill of Materials for the project.

 

o Work with Landing School purchasing agent and/ or vendors to source and order materials.

 

o Incorporate project management practices into the CBB curriculum.

• Evaluate student learning through questioning, homework, practical and theoretical testing.

• Share in the administrative tasks of the development and successful operation of the program, as assigned by the Director of Education.

• Share responsibility for the management of program facilities and equipment, as assigned by the Director of Education and President.

• Demonstrate, teach, and enforce, shop safety requirements and procedures.

• Uphold all school policies set forth in the Student Handbook and the School Policy Manual.

• Participate in school functions, staff meetings, and professional development activities, including staffing at boat shows.

• Continue to develop skills and knowledge pertinent to teaching and current marine industry practices.

• Work cooperatively and professionally with the Director of Education, staff, and students of the School at all times.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree or better

• Minimum of four years working in industry, building and repairing products using modern composite materials such as: fiberglass, Kevlar, carbon fiber, and polyester, vinylester and epoxy resin systems.

• Proven in-depth practical experience with various open and closed-molding techniques including wet layup, infusion, and pre-preg.

• In-depth experience in specifically yacht construction and repair a strong plus.

• Experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and CNC programming and cutting (CAM) a strong plus.

• Practical experience in product design and laminate specification development a strong plus

• Practical experience in structural design and laminate engineering a strong plus

• Previous teaching experience preferred. Alternatively, suitable training may be required before the faculty member assumes primary instructional responsibilities.
